Russia upgrades Su-57M fighter jet with unique electro-optical defense system.
Russia's Su-57M stealth fighter has recently been equipped with the 101KS-U dual-spectrum sensor and Kh-58UShKE anti-radar missile, allowing it to destroy enemy air defenses from a distance.
Russia's fifth-generation Su-57M fighter jet has just received a significant upgrade package for its Atoll defense system and precision strike weapons. The most notable aspect of this upgrade is the introduction of dual-spectrum electro-optical sensors and anti-radar missiles capable of neutralizing modern Western-made air defense systems.
Atoll defense system with new dual-spectrum sensors
The Su-57M fighter jets have been equipped with new sensors as part of the Atoll defense system, enhancing their survivability against air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. According to data analysis, this equipment allows pilots to identify threats early in complex combat environments.

Military experts highly appreciate the integration of the 101KS-U dual-spectrum missile detection sensor. Unlike earlier versions of the Su-57 which only operated in the ultraviolet (UV) range, the Su-57M version uses dual-spectrum modules combining both ultraviolet and infrared (IR) channels.

This combination offers a significant technical advantage: the infrared channel provides a considerably wider target detection range, while the ultraviolet channel ensures effective missile detection even when the aircraft is directly exposed to sunlight – a condition that typically interferes with conventional optical sensors.


Kh-58UShKE missile: The nemesis of Patriot and IRIS-T systems.
In addition to its defensive capabilities, the Su-57M's offensive power is enhanced by the successful integration of the advanced Kh-58UShKE anti-radar missile. This is a specialized weapon designed to suppress and destroy enemy air defense radar stations.

The Kh-58UShKE possesses a multi-band passive seeker capable of covering an extremely wide frequency range from 0.1 to 11 GHz. This specification allows the missile to track signals from most modern Western-made air defense radars, including the AN/MPQ-53 system of the Patriot (USA) and the TRML-4D of the IRIS-T (Germany) system.

With a maximum range of up to 250km, the Kh-58UShKE allows Su-57M pilots to carry out precise attacks without entering the dangerous zone of enemy air defenses. In particular, its intelligent guidance system allows the missile to find its target even before the pilot has determined the exact location of the radar field prior to launch.

Progress in equipping the Russian Aerospace Forces.
In early February, the state-owned technology corporation Rostec confirmed that the Russian Aerospace Forces had received a large batch of Su-57 fighter jets with the latest technical configuration. These aircraft are all equipped with upgraded avionics and the aforementioned advanced defensive systems.
