Mr. Tran Hong Thai holds the position of President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The Prime Minister appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, as the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai as President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Mr. Tran Hong Thai was born in 1974 in Ha Tinh province. He graduated from university in Russia and defended his doctoral thesis in Earth Sciences and Mathematics at Heidelberg University (Germany). He is a member of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He previously worked for many years at the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. He also held positions such as: Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (formerly), Chairman of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province, and Chairman of the People's Council of Lam Dong province.

In September 2025, Mr. Tran Hong Thai was appointed by the Prime Minister as the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Previously, Mr. Chau Van Minh, former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, resigned from his position as President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Mr. Minh is a member of the Executive Committee and Standing Committee, and holds the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations for the term 2025-2030.

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is a government agency responsible for conducting basic research in natural sciences and developing technology; providing scientific arguments for science and technology management and for the development of economic and social policies, strategies, and plans; and training highly qualified science and technology personnel in accordance with the law.

Currently, the Institute has four Vice Presidents: Bui The Duy, Tran Tuan Anh, Le Truong Giang, and Chu Hoang Ha.
