Over 80 years of development, combat, and growth, the Criminal Police force of Nghe An Provincial Police has affirmed its pivotal role in the fight against crime and in maintaining peace and security for the people.
On the occasion of the Nghe An Provincial Police's Criminal Investigation Department being honored by the Party and State with the prestigious title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, reporters from Nghe An Newspaper and Radio and Television had an interview with Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than - Head of the Criminal Investigation Department of Nghe An Provincial Police.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than:The past 80 years have been a proud journey for the Criminal Police force of Nghe An Provincial Police, closely linked to the glorious history of the Vietnam People's Police force. From the milestone of April 18, 1946 - when the Criminal Police force was officially formed - generations of officers and soldiers have continuously fought, sacrificed, and grown in all circumstances, from wartime to peacetime.

During the resistance war, the force steadfastly held its ground, fighting against various types of crime and protecting the revolutionary government. Entering the period of reform, faced with the increasing and complex changes in crime, the unit continues to affirm its leading role, implementing a comprehensive range of solutions to maintain security and order.

Notably, on December 20, 1990, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe Tinh Province was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. And in April 2026, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province was again honored with this prestigious title after the province's separation – a significant milestone, continuing and affirming the heroic tradition of the force throughout history. This is a well-deserved recognition of the immense and enduring contributions of generations of officers and soldiers.

PV: Could you please tell us about the outstanding achievements, successes, and victories of the force in the recent past?
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than:During the period 2015-2025, the Criminal Police force of Nghe An Provincial Police achieved many comprehensive and outstanding results. We investigated and clarified 1,983 cases involving 3,965 suspects; recovered assets worth trillions of VND; and uncovered more than 300 major cases, including many particularly serious and unprecedented cases.
In the fight against crime, many notable cases have left a deep mark. Case G175 in 2015 successfully apprehended the perpetrator of the massacre of four people in Tuong Duong district after a long and arduous investigation. By June 2025, Case 1223L dismantled two transnational fraud gangs operating in Cambodia, prosecuting 95 individuals and seizing an estimated more than 1 trillion VND – this was the first case in the country to detect and prosecute this type of crime on such a large scale, led by foreign nationals.

In the field of anti-corruption, Project 123N prosecuted 36 individuals involved in irregularities at the Nghe An Motor Vehicle Inspection Center, contributing to cleaning up this sector. Most recently, in January 2026, Project 1225S was launched on a large scale, coordinating with the police forces of 16 provinces and cities, arresting 45 individuals involved in the illegal manufacture, possession, and sale of military weapons; seizing 65 military firearms and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.

In addition, the force arrested or persuaded 234 wanted individuals to surrender; prosecuted and investigated 1,182 cases involving 3,765 defendants; and received and processed crime reports with a success rate of over 95%. Through patrol teams, especially Team 373, they detected and handled over 8,500 incidents involving more than 9,200 individuals. A deeply humane achievement was the successful rescue of a 3-year-old child kidnapped in Thanh Chuong in a very short time, ensuring the absolute safety of the victim.
These results further affirm the capabilities and resilience of the force, and are an important foundation contributing to the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces that the unit was honored to be awarded.
PV: How does the unit prioritize workforce development, administrative reform, and community service activities?
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than:We have always considered force building as a key and ongoing task. The unit focuses on improving the quality of political and ideological education, tightening discipline and order, and building a team of officers and soldiers with strong character, impeccable morals, professional expertise, and readiness to accept and successfully complete all assigned tasks.

Simultaneously, administrative reform has been implemented comprehensively, linked with digital transformation within the police force, gradually simplifying procedures, shortening processing times, and creating the most favorable conditions for citizens and businesses. The application of information technology in crime management, investigation, and prosecution is increasingly promoted, contributing to improved efficiency in professional work.
Beyond their professional duties, the force consistently shows concern for and actively participates in social welfare activities for the benefit of the community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, officers and soldiers were stationed at over 50 checkpoints, implementing numerous charitable programs and supporting people in need. From 2015 to 2025, the unit mobilized billions of VND to build charitable houses, bridges for the community, and support the poor, especially in disadvantaged areas, thereby contributing to spreading the positive image of police officers serving the people.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than:We are determined to continue upholding our glorious traditions, living up to the prestigious title bestowed upon us by the Party and the State; enhancing our forecasting capabilities, proactively preventing and effectively combating all types of crime, especially high-tech crime and transnational crime.

At the same time, we will build an increasingly professional, elite, and modern force; focus on training and developing cadres; and strengthen the application of science and technology in professional work. The nationwide movement to protect national security will continue to be promoted, linked with building a solid people's security posture.
Above all, every officer and soldier will always remember their oath of honor, uphold the 80-year tradition, wholeheartedly serve the people, maintain peace and security, and live up to the trust of the Party, the State, and the people.

During the period 2015-2025, the unit consistently achieved outstanding results, receiving the Emulation Flag from the Ministry of Public Security and the Provincial People's Committee for nine years. It was awarded the Third-Class (2016) and First-Class (2024) Military Merit Orders by the President, and received three letters of commendation from the Minister. In 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than, Head of the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, was awarded the title of National Emulation Soldier; many officers and soldiers received medals and achieved emulation titles throughout the force, thereby further affirming the prestige, courage, and unwavering spirit of overcoming difficulties and continuous innovation of the force – core elements that create the lasting value of the Hero title.
