Nghe An Statistics Department celebrates the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese Statistics ngành.

On the afternoon of April 24th, the Nghe An Provincial Statistics Department held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese Statistics ngành (May 6, 1946 - May 6, 2026).

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Hoang Nghia Hieu - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Van De - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Also present were representatives of the leaders of provincial departments and agencies.

Glorious tradition

Eighty years ago, on May 6, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 61 establishing the Statistics Department, under the Ministry of National Economy, the predecessor of today's General Statistics Office. On March 31, 2021, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 510/QD-TTg designating May 6th as Vietnam Statistics Day.

Over 80 years of construction and development under various names: the Vietnam Statistics Sector, the Central Statistics Office, the General Statistics Office, and the current Statistics Department, the Statistics sector has affirmed its role as a system providing truthful and objective information, effectively serving the leadership of the Party and the management of the State.

Throughout that journey, the Nghe An Statistics Department has continuously strived, overcome many difficulties, gradually matured, and made important contributions to the overall development of the province.

The Nghe An Statistics Department has effectively performed its function of collecting, compiling, analyzing, and providing socio-economic statistical information, promptly and efficiently serving the leadership and guidance of Party committees and governments at all levels. Annually, the department prepares hundreds of statistical reports, with over 840 reports of various types in 2025 alone, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness; the statistical indicator system is gradually being perfected, accurately reflecting the province's development.

In addition, the sector has successfully organized many large-scale censuses such as the Population Census, the Economic Census, and the Rural and Agricultural Census; specifically, the 2025 Rural and Agricultural Census was implemented in over 5,100 areas with over 625,000 households, ensuring quality and receiving high praise from the central government.

Coordination between the Statistics sector and other departments and agencies has become increasingly close; the exploitation of administrative data, application of information technology, and digital transformation in statistical activities have seen many positive changes; statistical products are becoming more diverse and better serving the needs of society.

The statistical staff has gradually matured, possessing professional qualifications, political acumen, and a high sense of responsibility; the organizational structure has been streamlined for greater efficiency.

These achievements have been recognized by the Party, the State, and all levels and sectors with many prestigious awards.

Improving the quality of statistical information

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the provincial leadership, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De praised and congratulated the great achievements that generations of officials in the Nghe An Statistics Department have achieved over the past 80 years.

To successfully achieve the province's socio-economic development goals for the 2026-2030 period, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the Nghe An Statistics Department needs to focus on improving the quality of statistical information, ensuring it is truthful, objective, complete, and timely; accurately reflecting the current situation and socio-economic development trends of the province.

In addition, there is a need for strong innovation in statistical analysis and forecasting, considering this a breakthrough; statistical data must "speak for itself," directly serving policy planning and development management.

Promoting digital transformation in the Statistics sector, applying modern technologies, effectively utilizing administrative data and big data; enhancing the ability to share, connect, and publicly disclose information.

The Statistics sector needs to continue improving its organizational structure, enhancing the quality of its staff, especially at the grassroots level; and focusing on training and developing professional skills, ethical conduct, and political integrity.

Strengthening inter-sectoral coordination and promoting the role of strategic advice will contribute to improving the effectiveness of state management and socio-economic development of the province.

Emphasizing the achievements of the past 80 years as a crucial foundation for the continued development of Nghe An's Statistics sector in the new phase, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed confidence that the provincial Statistics sector, with its tradition of unity, responsibility, and innovation, will continue to play its role, excellently fulfill its assigned tasks, and make positive contributions to the goal of building Nghe An into a relatively developed province in the country.

On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee presented a banner with the inscription: "Nghe An Provincial Statistics Department: 80 Years of Construction and Development (May 6, 1946 - May 6, 2026)". The Nghe An Statistics Department was honored to have 7 individuals awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister for their achievements in their work, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
