Update on Argentina's World Cup 2026 squad: The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has submitted a preliminary list of 55 players to FIFA before the May 11 deadline. Argentina is in Group J along with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan. The group stage matches begin on June 17.

Argentina used the full maximum of 55 players in their preliminary registration. All the key players from the qualifying rounds were included: Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez, Emiliano Martinez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, and Lautaro Martinez.
Notably, Cristian Romero, despite being sidelined for the rest of the season due to a ligament injury, was still included in the squad. According to regulations, teams must reduce their squad to 26 players by June 2nd and are only allowed substitutions if an injury occurs before the first match.
