Suspect who pretended to be a customer then snatched a necklace was quickly apprehended.
On May 16th, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Criminal Police Department) of Nghe An Provincial Police announced that they had issued a decision to temporarily detain Nguyen Trung Sang – an individual who pretended to be a customer before snatching a gold necklace from a shop owner.
Nguyen Trung Sang (born in 1996), residing in Truong Vinh ward, is unemployed and has a prior conviction for "robbery".
Needing money for personal expenses, on the morning of May 11, 2026, Sang rode his motorbike to a kiosk on Le Hong Son Street, Truong Vinh Ward, and pretended to buy 10 chicken eggs. When the female shop owner gave him the eggs, he snatched the gold necklace from her neck and sped away.
After committing the crime, Sang removed the license plate from the motorbike and then traveled through various routes to avoid detection by authorities. He then sold the gold necklace for 74.1 million VND at a gold and silver shop on Nguyen Sinh Sac Street, Thanh Vinh Ward.

Notably, Nguyen Trung Sang knew that the robbery took place when many people were passing by and paying attention, yet he still brazenly committed the crime. This demonstrates his recklessness, audacity, and disregard for the law, causing public outrage.
Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department and the Truong Vinh Ward Police immediately mobilized forces to investigate and quickly apprehend the suspect. Just 24 hours after receiving the report, at 4:00 PM on May 12, 2026, Nguyen Trung Sang was arrested by the Criminal Police Department, Truong Vinh Ward Police, and Thanh Vinh Ward Police, in coordination with the Command Center (Staff Department) of the Nghe An Provincial Police. At the police station, Nguyen Trung Sang confessed to his crime.
