Besides price fluctuations, food safety is being strictly enforced. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, in coordination with inter-agency forces, recently discovered and seized nearly 7 tons of contaminated meat that was about to be distributed to the market.
Specifically, at an unlicensed slaughterhouse in Thoi An Ward, authorities discovered four pigs (approximately 500 kg) being butchered under unsanitary conditions. In addition, during inspections along National Highway 1 and Nguyen Van Linh Street, the inspection team seized and destroyed nearly 700 kg of pork and chicken offal without quarantine certificates, which had been brought in from other provinces.
In Tru Van Tho Commune, authorities also discovered more than 1,860 poultry weighing a total of 5,500 kg without documentation proving their origin. The repeated discovery of substandard shipments shows that the pressure to control food inputs in major cities remains high.
