World robusta coffee prices today, May 21, 2026

At the close of trading on May 20th, the price of robusta coffee futures for July 2026 on the London exchange fell 0.51% (US$17/tonne) to US$3,328/tonne. The near-term contract faced strong selling pressure due to expectations of a surge in Brazilian supply as the canephora harvest is underway.

In contrast to the July contract, the September 2026 robusta coffee contract rose slightly by 0.19% (US$6/tonne) to US$3,214/tonne. The gap between the two contracts is US$114/tonne, reflecting that the forward price curve remains skewed towards the more expensive, closer-delivery contract (backwardation).

World Arabica coffee prices today, May 21, 2026

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for July 2026 delivery fell 0.68% (1.85 US cents/pound), to 268.3 US cents/pound. The September 2026 Arabica contract also decreased 0.63% (1.65 US cents/pound) to 260.5 US cents/pound.

According to Reuters, the prospect of a bumper crop in Brazil continues to be a major factor putting pressure on arabica coffee prices. As the world's largest producer of arabica, every signal regarding Brazil's production strongly influences global prices.

Brazil is heading towards the biggest coffee harvest in history.

In its latest report, Rabobank warned that unless severe extreme weather occurs, it is only a matter of time before the coffee market moves into a state of massive oversupply and drives prices down further.

Eisa, one of the world's largest coffee exporters, forecasts a sharp increase in Brazilian coffee exports in the coming months, replenishing inventories in consuming countries. Eisa's commercial director, Carlos Santana, said Brazil is likely to have its largest harvest in history in the 2026-2027 crop year (July 2026 to June 2027).

Brazil has now harvested about 5% of its 2026-2027 coffee crop, focusing on canephora varieties (robusta and conilon) in the states of Rondônia and Espírito Santo. The arabica crop will begin later. According to Mr. Santana, the impact of the harvest will be evident in export shipments from July and August 2026.

Once the harvest is complete, Brazilian coffee exports are expected to yield positive results in the final months of 2026, replenishing currently low global reserves. This is a negative factor for world coffee prices in the medium and long term.

Low ICE inventories and a weak Brazilian real are supporting prices.

The decline in coffee prices was limited by a continued drop in benchmark inventories on the exchange. Robusta coffee inventories on the ICE exchange fell to a two-year low of 3,631 lots at the end of last week, before recovering to 3,845 lots on Wednesday – a two-and-a-half-week high.

Arabica coffee inventories on the ICE exchange also fell to their lowest level in 2.75 months, at 456,462 bags. Low inventories are helping to support short-term coffee prices as actual demand for delivery remains.

The weakening of the Brazilian real against the US dollar also has a positive impact on international coffee prices. When the Brazilian currency depreciates, the converted profit margins of exporters are lower, reducing the incentive to sell coffee priced in USD. This exchange rate factor is currently one of the important supporting forces for global coffee prices.
