Vinh Phu Ward: Traffic lights need to be installed soon at the Van Xuan - Le Quy Don intersection.
The intersection of Van Xuan and Le Quy Don roads in Vinh Phu ward (Nghe An province) has been a traffic safety hotspot for many years. This complex intersection, with its heavy traffic volume, deteriorated road surface, and lack of traffic lights, leaves residents constantly worried whenever they travel through this area.
Potential dangers
For many years, the intersection between Van Xuan Street (35m wide) and Le Quy Don Street in Vinh Phu Ward has been a constant source of worry for local residents and commuters.

According to the reporter's observations, this area is not only the intersection of two major roads with high traffic density, but it also has a road connecting Xuan Hoa and Xuan Trung blocks running through it, creating a six-way intersection with many interwoven and complex traffic directions.
During peak hours, this area is always congested with vehicles. Motorcycles, cars, trucks, and buses converge from multiple directions simultaneously, making movement difficult. Many drivers have to slow down abruptly, yielding to each other for every small gap to pass through the intersection.
Meanwhile, traffic flows are not perpendicular but diagonal, with many blind spots, forcing drivers to constantly strain their eyes to observe their surroundings.

Mr. Duong Xuan Binh, from Xuan Hoa block, Vinh Phu ward, said that collisions and accidents in this area are almost commonplace for the residents living nearby.
"It's dangerous during the day, but it's even scarier at night because of the lack of lighting, with many sections completely dark. Large trucks are constantly driving by, honking loudly. A moment of inattention can easily lead to a collision," Mr. Binh shared.
According to local residents, numerous traffic accidents, both minor and major, occur in this area every month. Some incidents result in only minor injuries or vehicle damage, while others have resulted in victims requiring emergency hospitalization.

In fact, there were times when 2-3 collisions occurred consecutively over several days. These incidents mainly involved motorcycles, cars, and trucks simultaneously crossing the intersection without proper observation, and without traffic lights or law enforcement officers to regulate traffic.
More importantly, the road surface of Van Xuan Street has deteriorated after many years of use. Many sections are riddled with potholes, bumps, peeling paint, and uneven surfaces, making travel even more dangerous.

Many locals liken the road surface here to a "potato field." Drivers say that having to avoid potholes while observing vehicles from multiple directions makes navigating the intersection extremely stressful.
In many cases, motorcyclists have to brake suddenly or swerve to avoid collisions with other vehicles when dodging damaged sections of the road.
We hope the traffic lights will be installed soon.
Due to the long-standing safety issues at the Van Xuan – Le Quy Don intersection, local residents have repeatedly petitioned the authorities to find a solution as soon as possible.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, head of Xuan Hoa block, said that traffic issues in this area have been repeatedly raised by voters in resident meetings, community activities, and interactions with local authorities.
According to Mr. Dong, what people most desire now is the early installation of a traffic light system to manage and regulate traffic flow.
"This intersection has many intersecting directions and a very high volume of traffic, especially heavy trucks operating frequently day and night. Residents have petitioned many times because everyone is worried about serious accidents. Traffic lights will help vehicles stay in the correct lanes, reduce congestion, and limit collisions like the current situation," Mr. Dong shared.

In addition to requesting the installation of traffic lights, residents in the area also asked the authorities to promptly repair the Van Xuan road surface, which has been deteriorating for many years; and to add a lighting system, warning signs, and speed reduction measures at the intersection.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hoang Nang Hiep, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Phu Ward People's Committee, said that the local authorities have repeatedly received complaints from residents regarding the unsafe traffic conditions at this intersection.
According to Mr. Hiep, after conducting a field survey, the local authorities noted that this area has a high volume of traffic, complex traffic conditions, and a high risk of accidents, especially during peak hours and when there is a high volume of heavy trucks.
"However, investing in and installing traffic signal systems is not within the local authority's jurisdiction. The ward has repeatedly petitioned and proposed to higher-level agencies and relevant departments to promptly develop a plan to address the issue, reorganize traffic, add traffic signs, and invest in a traffic signal system to ensure the safety of the people," Mr. Hiep said.

Regarding this issue, a representative from the Road Maintenance Management Board of the Nghe An Department of Construction stated that the unit is reviewing potential traffic safety hazards in the province to develop a plan for addressing them, including the Van Xuan – Le Quy Don intersection.
According to the unit's representative, the Board is coordinating surveys, calculating technical options, and balancing funding sources to soon deploy traffic lights at this intersection.
Along with installing traffic lights, authorities will also consider adding warning signs, painting road markings, and repairing infrastructure to improve traffic safety in the area.
While awaiting the implementation of solutions, the current wish of the people is for the authorities to expedite the process to quickly address the shortcomings and reduce the risk of accidents at this "hot spot".
