This year's math exam was considered to be of moderate difficulty for the candidates. Most questions closely followed the curriculum and review material, making it easier for students to complete the exam. However, the exam still had a certain degree of differentiation in the later questions, especially the short-term answer section, aiming to assess students' application and critical thinking skills.

Students are pleased because the actual math exam was easier than the mock exam.

After completing the examMathematicsDuring the 2026 high school graduation exam, many candidates at the Ha Huy Tap High School examination center left the exam room feeling quite relaxed. According to their general assessment, this year's exam was of moderate difficulty, easier to approach than the previous mock exam, and did not contain too many tricky questions.

The exam consists of 22 questions, divided into 3 sections: multiple-choice questions (12 questions), true/false questions (4 questions), and short-answer questions (6 questions). The true/false section requires candidates to evaluate four points in each question, demanding carefulness and accuracy during the exam.

Aiming to study Natural Science Education at Hanoi University of Education, Nguyen Quang Vinh (class 12T3) said that Math is the subject he will use for university admission. Although quite nervous, he felt relieved this afternoon after completing the exam because this year's test was "easier" than last year's. Vinh said he completed the entire test and finished just in time. However, he still feels unsure about some of the short-answer questions, especially those related to probability. With this test, Vinh hopes to score 8 points and will try his best to complete the last two subjects, Chemistry and Biology, tomorrow.

Sharing the same opinion, Nguyen Thi Cam Tu (class 12T5) said that the multiple-choice section of the exam was quite easy. Meanwhile, the true/false section required candidates to read the questions carefully to avoid confusion, while the question about calculating distance was the most difficult part for her. “Everyone in the exam room was quite happy because they did well.”

Aiming for admission to the University of Civil Engineering, Chu Hoang The Vu (class 12A4) also said that the questions at the beginning were relatively easy. However, Vu had difficulty with some of the last questions in the short answer section: He struggled with questions 3, 5, and 6, so even though he spent a considerable amount of time thinking, he still couldn't find complete answers to these questions. He hopes to score above 8 points.

Leaving the exam center in a fairly relaxed mood, Nguyen Khanh Hoa, a candidate at Dong Hieu High School, said: “From question 1 to about question 16, I did quite smoothly because they were all within the knowledge I had reviewed. The last questions were more challenging, so I had to spend more time thinking. I predict I can get over 7 points.”

According to some teachers, this year's math exam continues to adhere to the competency-based development orientation of the 2018 General Education Program, increasing the number of questions related to real-world situations and emphasizing the ability to apply knowledge. The true/false and short-answer questions not only test calculation skills but also require candidates to analyze, reason, and choose appropriate solutions.

Overall, the exam was considered to be of appropriate difficulty for most candidates, while still ensuring sufficient differentiation to serve the purposes of graduation assessment and university admissions.

The number of exams with a score of 9 or higher will be increased.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Minh, a math teacher at Quynh Luu 1 High School, the 2026 high school graduation exam in mathematics will have a stable structure compared to 2025, ensuring continuity and alignment with the exam's reform direction. The exam consists of three main parts: 12 multiple-choice questions, 4 true/false questions, and 6 short-answer questions.

Overall, Mr. Minh believes that the exam both met the graduation requirements and effectively differentiated students at various ability levels. The multiple-choice section primarily tested basic knowledge, making it accessible and manageable for students with average academic abilities. Meanwhile, the true/false section and especially the short-answer section began to feature questions with a higher level of differentiation, particularly those involving combinations and probability.

Regarding the score range, Mr. Minh believes that students with average academic ability, if they have a solid grasp of the basic knowledge in the curriculum, can absolutely achieve around 5.5 - 6 points. This group of students needs to successfully complete the 12 multiple-choice questions and be able to handle most of the points in the 4 true/false questions. However, due to the nature of true/false questions, even a single incorrect answer can result in a deduction of 0.5 points; therefore, achieving a perfect score in this section is not easy for most candidates.

Teacher Minh also believes that this year's exam has a moderate level of difficulty, not designed to trick students but still ensuring differentiation among high-scoring groups. Therefore, the expected score distribution will be concentrated in the 6-8 point range, and the number of papers scoring 9 points or higher may increase compared to last year.

"

To achieve a score of 7-8 points, students need to be able to apply their knowledge better, complete almost all of the true/false sections, and solve some additional questions in the short answer section. According to Mr. Minh, two types of math problems that above-average students can conquer are distance problems in space and problems applying cubic functions. These are familiar topics in the curriculum, but require critical thinking skills and accurate presentation.

For scores of 9 and above, the exam requires students to have a solid foundation of knowledge and strong mathematical thinking. Candidates need to accurately answer all multiple-choice and true/false questions, and complete most of the short answer sections. Questions on combinations and probability are considered the "key" to differentiating high-achieving students. A single mistake in a combination or probability question can cost a candidate 0.5 to 1 point, making it difficult to achieve a perfect score.

Notably, Mr. Minh predicted that the number of perfect scores (10/10) in Mathematics this year would be higher. Based on initial feedback from students after the exam, approximately 3-4 students in his classes confidently achieved perfect scores. Among them were students who were not in the advanced classes but still performed very well. This shows that the exam provided an opportunity for students with a solid foundation in knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and stable exam psychology to achieve the highest results.
