Nghe An police dismantled a World Cup 2026 football betting ring.
The Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, in coordination with relevant units, has successfully cracked a case, dismantling an online gambling ring that operated through football betting on the Internet (website).www.hira88.comInitially, 11 suspects were arrested.
In accordance with the plan of the Criminal Police Department and the directives of the leaders of the Nghe An Provincial Police regarding the prevention and fight against crimes related to organized gambling and gambling activities during the final round of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the Criminal Police Department of the Nghe An Provincial Police has implemented many measures to effectively combat this type of crime.
Through investigative work, in early May 2026, the Criminal Police Department discovered a network organizing and participating in online football betting. Upon verification, the police determined that the gambling ring was organized and structured into multiple levels, with the mastermind in Vietnam being Le Van Hoang (born in 1995), temporarily residing in Tran Bien Ward, Dong Nai City.
Accordingly, Hoang colluded with individuals abroad to establish a transnational gambling ring, with Le Van Hoang managing the master account in Vietnam. From this master account, Hoang further subdivided it into numerous sub-accounts, then established a multi-tiered gambling network across many provinces and cities nationwide.
Under Hoang's direction, the individuals directly organized and participated in gambling with very large sums of money. Initially, the police proved that the amount of money gambled in just the first 6 days of the FIFA World Cup 2026 (from June 11th, 2026 to June 17th, 2026) was over 5 billion VND. Of this amount, two of Hoang's subordinate agents, Nguyen Quoc Truong (born in 1988) and Tran Huu An (born in 1990), both residing in Dong Nai City, not only organized gambling for others but also directly participated in gambling with nearly 1 billion VND.
Following a period of surveillance, from June 17th to June 25th, 2026, the special task force simultaneously arrested 11 individuals for organizing and participating in gambling activities.
At the investigative agency, the suspects initially confessed to their crimes.
