Data from a patent filed in China on July 10th reveals that the Switch 2 dock is not simply a port adapter. The device possesses the ability to recognize the type of hardware being connected and adjust its specifications accordingly. Specifically, when connected to a Switch 2, the system will enable high-resolution video output (up to 4K) and open up USB 3.0 data bandwidth.
Conversely, when a user plugs in an older version of the Switch that doesn't support 4K resolution, the dock will automatically lower the video signal to a more stable level for compatibility. Simultaneously, the data connection will be adjusted to USB 2.0 to match the technical specifications of the older model.
