Enhancing fire prevention and evacuation skills for apartment building residents.
On the afternoon of August 23rd, at Cienco4 Tower apartment building in Thanh Vinh ward, Team No. 1 of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Nghe An province organized a program to disseminate information, provide hands-on experience, and practice fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue skills for residents.
During the program, officers and soldiers of Fire Prevention and Control Team No. 1 disseminated basic knowledge about fire prevention and control, and guided residents in identifying common fire and explosion hazards in apartment buildings.
The awareness campaign focuses on risks such as electrical short circuits, overloading of the electrical system, and improper use of electrical equipment; the proper storage and use of fire sources, heat sources, and flammable materials and items in the apartment. Authorities also remind residents not to illegally connect or tamper with electrical wiring; not to leave obstructions in hallways, stairwells, and escape routes; and to proactively familiarize themselves with escape routes and the location of fire safety equipment in the building.
Specifically, residents were instructed on how to handle a fire in their apartment or common areas of the building; how to quickly alert others, call 114, and accurately report the location of the fire. In case of smoke or toxic gases, residents were instructed on safe escape techniques, how to minimize smoke inhalation, how not to use elevators during a fire, and how to calmly move along the indicated escape routes.
In addition to awareness campaigns, people also had the opportunity to directly experience and practice using portable fire extinguishers to put out simulated fires and practice some basic rescue and emergency procedures.
Disseminating information, providing hands-on experience, and practicing fire prevention and rescue skills in residential areas and apartment buildings are crucial solutions to raise awareness of prevention and improve people's ability to handle emergency situations. Direct practice helps people remember knowledge, develop response skills, and especially the ability to remain calm in the initial minutes when a fire or explosion occurs.
Currently, the Nghe An Provincial Police are intensifying the dissemination of information, practical training, and skills development in fire prevention and rescue in residential areas, apartment buildings, production and business establishments, and areas with a high risk of fire and explosion. This contributes to bringing fire prevention knowledge and skills closer to the people, building a proactive fire prevention awareness in each family, and creating a proactive approach to fire prevention and rescue work at the grassroots level.
