The VN-Index surged strongly, primarily driven by Vingroup stocks, especially VIC.

Opening the trading session on the morning of October 5th, the downward momentum caused red to dominate the trading board; however, the VN-Index quickly reversed course and recovered during the continuous order matching period.

The main impetus came from the recovery of blue-chip stocks, especially VIC, helping the VN-Index gradually extend its gains and at times even challenge the 1,750-point level. However, market capital flows remained quite cautious, while most stock groups traded in a mixed manner, preventing the index from breaking through strongly.

After more than an hour of trading, the VN-Index only increased by just over 9 points, with VIC alone contributing nearly 8 points. In addition, HPG also recovered positively, at one point rising nearly 4% and currently up nearly 3%, contributing more than 1 point to the overall index.

Apart from a few large-cap stocks acting as a support, the rest of the market remained quite volatile. Key sectors like banking and securities also failed to generate significant momentum, mostly fluctuating within narrow ranges.

In the banking sector, TCB (-1.24%), HDB (-1.41%), SHB (-0.45%), VPB (-1.09%), ACB (-0.47%) and LPB (+6.97%) were downgraded. In the real estate sector, VIC (+2.5%), VHM (+0.16%), VPI (-3.06%), NVL (-1.91%), VRE (-0.42%) and DXG (-0.5%) were downgraded.

Financial services group: SSI (+1.02%), VCI (+1.88%), VND (+0.75%), VIX (+1.27%) and MBS (+0.66%). Retail group: MWG (+0.96%), DGW (+3.92%), PET (+3.41%), FRT (+0.21%) and HMX (-0.13%).

At the close of trading, the VN-Index rose 15.26 points to 1,752.97 points (+0.88%) compared to the previous session. Similarly, the HNX-Index increased by 266.85 points (+0.04%), equivalent to 0.1 point. Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index decreased by 125.79 points (-0.11%), equivalent to 0.14 points.

Market liquidity reached VND 5,761.76 billion, with 232 million shares traded. Across the sector, 159 stocks rose, 120 fell, and 64 dropped to their reference price.

According to experts at AIS Securities Company, the VN-Index extended its weakening trend for the second consecutive week, losing 47.4 points, equivalent to -2.66%, confirming a short-term correction trend.

Foreign investors intensified their net selling to a record high of VND 5,022.41 billion last week, indirectly deepening investor caution amidst a shortage of domestic capital.

The downward momentum is likely to continue. The psychological support level around 1,700 points is expected to trigger bargain-hunting demand and open up short-term technical rebounds.

Investors should proactively manage risk, reduce their holdings in sectors under strong selling pressure, and only consider investing when the index confirms a point of equilibrium.
