Determination to farm

For the past month, many groups of people of all ages have been visiting the rose growing area in Nam Anh Commune, Nam Dan District. Coming to this mountainous area, people can immerse themselves in nature, take beautiful photos, and buy roses as gifts. Such activities are called agricultural tourism.

This year, many households in Nam Anh commune did not harvest persimmons early as in previous years, but instead left the fruit on the tree longer to serve tourists who came to visit and take pictures. Of course, those who come to the persimmon garden to stroll around and take pictures must pay a certain fee to the family that owns the persimmon garden. This method helps persimmon growers have more income before harvesting all the persimmons to rotate and fertilize the next year's persimmon crop. It is known that the local government is working with persimmon growers in Nam Anh commune to evaluate the feasibility of the above activity, from which there is a plan to expand it to beautiful persimmon gardens in the area in the coming time, in order to exploit agricultural tourism effectively.

Looking at other provinces, we see that Ha Giang province has been successful with the agricultural tourism model. Those are the buckwheat flower gardens that attract tourists, becoming a prominent brand. In addition to charging for photography, farmers in Ha Giang province also exploit buckwheat seeds for food, to ferment wine, make cakes, make buckwheat oil or make oriental medicine, and the tree trunk can be used as animal feed. If only the persimmon tree in Nam Anh commune and other typical trees in Nghe An were also exploited in that direction, it would increase the income of farmers as well as many people participating in the service chain.

There is a folk song saying: “First is to be a scholar, second is to be a farmer”. Farming, simply, is the activity of working, producing agricultural products, plowing, planting, caring, harvesting, and processing. Those processes in the new era also demonstrate the level of farmers in changing farming methods, actively applying science and technology in planting, caring, harvesting, and processing products to bring higher value. “Determination to farm” combined with tourism exploitation will bring real double value.
