Quynh Luu: Focus on overcoming the consequences of storm No. 11
(Baonghean.vn) –After storm No. 10, Quynh Luu residents quickly restored production, but storm No. 11 hit with heavy rain, causing the entire vegetable area that people had just sown to be deeply submerged in water.
Although storm No. 11 did not make landfall, due to the impact of the storm, heavy rains in Quynh Luu district combined with overflowing of Vuc Mau lake caused flooding, causing the entire vegetable area, shrimp ponds and people's property to be submerged. After the water receded, people quickly prepared the land and replanted to restore production. Unexpectedly, storm No. 11 hit again, causing heavy rains, causing the entire vegetable area that people had just planted to continue to be deeply submerged in water.
The family of Mrs. Ho Thi Hong, in Hamlet 2, Quynh Luong Commune, has just planted more than 2 sao of vegetables in the growing period, but due to the impact of storm No. 11 causing heavy rain, all of her family's vegetables were flooded, now only a vacant lot remains. Mrs. Hong sadly said: "All the vegetables were damaged, the land was re-cultivated to grow vegetables but the heavy rain caused by storm No. 11 flooded everything, now everything is lost, everything is washed away".
Quynh Luong Commune is one of the communes with the largest vegetable growing area in the district. The whole commune currently has 220 hectares of cultivated land, of which 200 hectares are used for growing vegetables. After storm No. 10, the whole commune has restored 70 hectares of vegetables, however, due to the impact of storm No. 11, the entire vegetable growing area of the people who had just started growing them was flooded again, completely lost.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tue, Vice Chairman of Quynh Luong Commune People's Committee said: "Continuous rain has greatly affected production, making people's lives even more difficult. Input costs are too high, production is one thing, and production is another, affecting people's future income."
Heavy rains lasting for 3 days from October 15, 16 and 17 have caused the entire vegetable and winter crop area in Quynh Luu district to be deeply submerged in water. The amount of rainfall measured in the past few days in the district was nearly 300 mm, causing great damage to the production of the people. Many salt-making ponds of salt farmers in An Hoa, Quynh Thuan, Quynh Nghia communes... and the entire winter vegetable production area of farmers in the coastal communes were flooded. According to quick statistics from the district's flood and storm prevention committee, in the district, more than 1,200 hectares of vegetables and winter crops were flooded, with over 70% damaged. Heavy rains have caused 1,775 households in Quynh Luu district to be flooded. The estimated damage from storm No. 11 is over 1.2 billion VND.
