Here, the authorities identified Vi Van My (born in 1972, residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son, Nghe An) as a particularly dangerous criminal who had been on the run since 2004 for illegal drug trafficking and possession of explosives. After being wanted, My fled into the forest, and in recent years, he has brazenly returned to set up a camp in the forest to trade drugs.

Being a very reckless person, having escaped from the police, he became very sensitive and vigilant. When returning to Khe Nan village, My organized a close "disciple" army of 5 people who always carried guns, homemade mines, and grenades for self-defense and were ready to fight back to protect him.

After many days of “lying low” and closely monitoring Vi Van My’s movements, there were very few loopholes to catch him. According to an investigator in the case, he built a tent right next to the edge of the forest, on which he had arranged a “mobile” board. When there was a disturbance, he just had to remove the board and he would disappear deep into the forest and be impossible to find. Besides, in addition to the weapons he always carried with him, he always had a very dangerous arsenal in his house.

“Vi Van My’s house contained a warehouse of hot weapons ready to fight back, along with information that he had prepared a coffin behind the house. The purpose was that if he discovered that he was surrounded and had no way out, he would use a grenade to commit suicide along with his followers and the police. Therefore, all surveillance activities of the detectives were extremely careful. To solve the case, they had to wait for a favorable opportunity and choose the right time to arrest the subject,” shared Colonel Nguyen Dinh Anh, Head of PC47, Nghe An Police.

Nearly a month had passed, the scouts faced the sun, wind, thirst of summer, rugged mountainous terrain and were unfamiliar with the area, so they encountered many difficulties. However, with the determination to capture Vi Van My before returning to the unit, everyone was ready to fight.

As for Vi Van My, he still freely traded drugs at his private home and was closely guarded by a group of disciples. The most difficult thing in the case was that he rarely met or had contact with My.

Because he rarely interacted with strangers, the addicts who came to his house to buy drugs were mostly local acquaintances, so when strangers appeared, he stayed at home and did not sell drugs. However, the drug retail point at his house was always crowded with local addicts who came to buy drugs and use them there.

At around 5:45 p.m. on June 22, using professional measures, the reconnaissance force caught Vi Van My sitting in front of the porch getting a haircut, carrying a duckbill grenade. Searching the subject's residence, the police continued to seize 8 packages of heroin on a mat, 1 small scale, 30 sharp knives, various swords, and 3 homemade guns.
