Thanh Vinh, New Year's Day

February 10, 2013 23:08

(Baonghean.vn) - After a year filled with ups and downs, joys and sorrows, Vinh City enters the new year with a new spirit and appearance. But on the first day of the year, Vinh, like so many cities and villages across beloved Vietnam, suddenly becomes strangely quiet, serene, and peaceful. It seems that all the daily worries and struggles for survival have temporarily subsided, leaving behind a city of profound peace. Vinh suddenly returns to its pristine, sacred state, deep within the consciousness of a city over 200 years old. And then, Vinh prepares for the next 364 days with countless plans and aspirations.

The photo series by PV captured a different side of Vinh on the first day of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Snake 2013:

Alley A1, Nguyen Van Cu Street, was eerily quiet, with only the New Year's flags still brightly displaying their vibrant red color.

The left and right gates of the ancient Vinh citadel are shrouded in a rare sense of melancholy.

Vinh bus station is deserted.

Quang Trung Boulevard, a major thoroughfare of the city, seemed to be taking a "break" on the first day of Tet (Lunar New Year).

The roundabout in front of the Oriental Hotel was quiet in the drizzle on the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.

The Eurowindow building and the BigC Vinh supermarket complex also became strangely deserted and tranquil.
