On her Telegram page, Ms. Vereshchuk said that Ukraine continues to evacuate women, children and the elderly from Mariupol. She also called on people to gather on the highway near the Port City shopping center to facilitate the evacuation.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk said Ukraine would not set up a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians on April 22 due to the danger. Meanwhile, Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said that about 100,000 people were still trapped in the city.

Much of Mariupol is under Russian control, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukrainian troops remain in parts of the city.
