She will become "the new Jackie Kennedy," the Spanish text on the cover reads.
"Melania Trump, February cover," the magazine announced on January 26. "The article reveals the fascinating first lady's past," the paper advertised.
The tweet came on the same day that US President Trump announced the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico and demanded that Mexico pay for it, causing Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to cancel a visit to Washington, according to USA Today.
Many people criticized the magazine. "So insensitive," wrote one. "Poor timing," commented another.
In fact, this photo of Mrs. Melania was not taken by Vanity Fair Mexico magazine but was republished from the April 2016 issue of GQ. GQ and Vanity Fair belong to the same parent company, Condé Nast.
