Resettlement commune has no third child for 2 consecutive years

This is the third locality in Nghe An to be honored with a Certificate of Merit from the province and the only commune to be awarded for not having a third or more child this year. The People's Committee of Nghe An province also decided to award 40 million VND to the collective of cadres and people of the commune.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of Population and Family Planning highly appreciated the efforts of the government and people of Ngoc Lam commune in population work in recent years.

The representative of the Department of Population and Family Planning also hopes that, from the achieved results, Ngoc Lam will make more efforts, maintain its achievements and build the commune into a bright spot to be replicated throughout the province.

Ngoc Lam is a resettlement commune with nearly 1,400 households, with 3 ethnic groups living together: Thai, Kho Mu and O Du. In recent years, despite many difficulties, the Party Committee and the commune government have had many positive solutions to do a good job of population work.

Thanks to that, for two consecutive years from 2016 to 2017, 14/14 villages in the commune had no one giving birth to a third child. Thanks to good population work, from a commune with more than 90% of the population being poor households, the rate has now dropped to only about 50%. It is estimated that in 2018, Ngoc Lam will continue to maintain the result of a commune with no one giving birth to a third child.

Along with Ngoc Lam, on this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee also awarded Certificates of Merit to 7 other communes for their achievements in rapidly reducing the third child birth rate by 50% or more. These communes are: Hung Khanh, Hung Phuc (Hung Nguyen), Nghia Tien (Thai Hoa town), Nghia Binh (Nghia Dan), Don Phuc (Con Cuong), Chau Thon (Que Phong) and Muong Ai (Ky Son). The total amount of rewards is 58,200,000 VND.
