Winter crop has become the main crop of the year in Nghe An with many positive results. In the 2021 winter crop alone, the winter crop production value in the province reached more than 1,800 billion VND. Many high-value winter crop production models have been replicated and most farmers are looking forward to the winter crop to actively invest in production, create new products and new values.
Accompanying farmers in winter crop production, the Provincial People's Committee and districts have issued support policies on seeds, fertilizers as well as installing automatic misting systems... Some districts have mobilized businesses to actively participate in the production, harvesting and consumption of winter products. Typically, in Dien Phong commune, Dien Chau district, the potato model is considered the most effective winter crop on the land here. In the past 3 years, a business has purchased all the products after harvest at a pre-agreed price. That has created conditions for farmers in the commune to expand the potato area to 40 hectares. Or some successful garlic (Thanh Chuong) and asparagus (Nghia Dan, Thai Hoa) growing models have brought new economic values.

The above results are so happy! But why does the author of the article call it "exciting"? Because, up to now, although winter crop production has been identified as the main crop, there are still many worries. That is, the winter crop faces many difficulties due to the weather, even risks due to storms and natural disasters. Right after the heavy rain for 3 days near the end of November 2022, many areas of crops and fruit trees were severely damaged. At the same time, many places are still "limping" in directing, organizing production, and linking to find stable markets for winter crop products. The most worrying thing is the consumption of products.
Many people still remember that a few years ago, green squash products in Thanh Lien commune (Thanh Chuong), and some communes in Anh Son were in high demand, all production was purchased. However, from last year until now, green squash production has been at a loss, many households have switched to growing corn. The basic reason is that this product has fallen in price miserably but there are few buyers, farmers have had to call for "rescue"... Obviously, the land potential and the current labor capacity of farmers can produce many products in the "difficult" winter crop. However, the core is that product output has not been thoroughly resolved, making the joy of the success of winter crop production only "eager". Meanwhile, planning management, market forecasting, and linkage between farmers and businesses are also weak links...
