(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of January 28th, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the murder case against Phan Van Quang, born on September 5th, 1996, residing in Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu district.

According to the indictment of the Nghe An Provincial People's Procuracy, in early August 2012, Phan Van Quang brought an old mobile phone to the house of Nguyen Van Lang (Tuan B hamlet, Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu district) to sell. After being refused by Mr. Lang, Quang became angry and planned revenge. On August 6, 2012, Quang concealed a sickle on his person and called Mr. Lang to ask him to drive him to Tan Thang commune (Mr. Lang also worked as a hired driver). Waiting until dusk, on a deserted road, Quang, sitting in the back seat, used the sickle to slit Mr. Lang's throat, killing him, and then fled. After two days on the run, Phan Van Quang was persuaded by his family to surrender.

At the trial, Phan Van Quang honestly confessed to all his crimes and showed remorse. Considering the defendant's actions were thuggish, aggressive, and brutal, but given that Phan Van Quang was not yet 16 years old at the time of the crime, and that he honestly confessed and actively compensated the victim's family for part of the damages, the court sentenced Phan Van Quang to 11 years in prison.
