(Baonghean.vn) -Currently, the summer-autumn rice crop in Yen Thanh district has finished tillering in flooded areas, and is in the tillering period in the wetland areas. However, people are worried about the problem of rats destroying rice in many communes, with quite high density.

According to the report of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to now, 10 communes have reported that rats are damaging rice: Lang Thanh, Hau Thanh, Hung Thanh, Hong Thanh, Phu Thanh, Trung Thanh, Bac Thanh, Khanh Thanh... In this situation, Yen Thanh district has directed localities to proactively check and exterminate rats by trapping and baiting simultaneously in the fields.

Mr. Thai Khac Dung - Vice Chairman of Lang Thanh Commune People's Committee, said: Since the beginning of June, in the fields of Con Thong, Cua Leu, Lo Ngoi... rats have been destroying many rice fields. Starting from June 10, the commune assigned the Agricultural Cooperative to directly distribute medicine, bait, and instruct people to trap and trap rats in the fields safely. After 3 days of rat extermination, the whole commune has collected nearly 60 kg of rats. Currently, the rat damage to rice has decreased, however, the commune continues to direct the Cooperative to monitor the situation of pests and diseases on rice plants, as well as monitor the development of rats in the fields to proactively eradicate them.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc, a farmer in Nam Thanh commune, said: My family has a field of more than 3 sao, near the edge of the village. After planting for nearly half a month, rats ate almost all of it, so we had to replant. After the second planting, rats continued to bite and destroy. My family bought microbial rat poison 3 times, spending 60,000 VND to use the bait. After each night of bait, dozens of rats lay dead in the fields.

Yen Thanh's summer-autumn rice is in the tillering and finishing tillering stage. If damaged by rats, it cannot be recovered. Therefore, localities are focusing on exterminating rats by all means.
