(Baonghean.vn) -In recent days, heavy rains in Dien Chau district have affected the progress of harvesting summer-autumn sesame. Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers are actively harvesting sesame quickly to prepare the land for planting winter crops.

Farmers in Dien Thanh are busy harvesting sesame.

Ms. Dao Thi Ba from Hamlet 11, Dien Thanh Commune, said: "My family planted 1 sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of Japanese white sesame seeds in April. Despite the unpredictable weather, thanks to the guidance of agricultural extension officers on cultivation techniques, the yield reached nearly 70 kg. After drying in the sun for just one day, traders came to buy it at 30,000 VND/kg." It is known that this year, Dien Thanh Commune planted 150 hectares of sesame in the summer-autumn crop season, and thanks to the application of scientific and technological advancements in production, the yield was high.

After the sesame planting area was demarcated, the farmers proceeded to clear the land.
To prepare for the winter season.

This year's summer-autumn sesame crop in Dien Chau district covers over 2,100 hectares, concentrated in the communes of Dien Thinh (over 400 hectares), Dien Trung (400 hectares), and Dien Thanh (150 hectares)... Although farmers are using new varieties and boldly applying scientific and technological advancements to production, some areas have been completely damaged and yields have been low due to recent storms and heavy rains. Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Vice Chairman of the Dien Chau District People's Committee, stated: "Currently, the district is promoting and encouraging farmers to harvest sesame. In reality, the yield this season is uneven, with an expected average yield of over 3 quintals/hectare. The district will finish harvesting on August 5th."
