Vietnam ranks 6th in the world and 2nd in Asia in exporting wooden furniture.
In the first 8 months of 2013, wood and wood products exports reached over 3.34 billion USD, an increase of 11.6% over the same period in 2012.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development estimates that the export value of wood and wood products in August reached 432 million USD, bringing the export value in the first 8 months of 2013 to over 3.34 billion USD, an increase of 11.6% over the same period in 2012.
In the first 7 months of the year, except for the German market (down 14.4%) and France (down 2.2%), exports of wood and wood products to major consumer markets mostly grew strongly, specifically: the United States increased by 7.2%, China increased by 14.7%, Japan increased by 20.3%, and South Korea increased by 48.2% over the same period last year.
According to the Center for Trade and Industry Information (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam is ranked sixth in the world, second in Asia and first in Southeast Asia in exporting wooden furniture.
In 2012, the export turnover of wooden furniture and forestry products was 4.67 billion USD, an increase of 15.3% over the previous year, and this is the sector with a high trade surplus compared to the whole country.
It is forecasted that in 2013, wood and wood product exports will grow by 10% with a turnover of about 5.5 billion USD.
Regarding the export market, the United States leads in turnover reaching over 1 billion USD, accounting for 36.7% of the market share, up 7.24% over the same period. In July 2013 alone, the export turnover of wood and products to the United States reached 176.2 million USD. The main product categories exported to the United States in the month were: chairs, pine beds, tables, cabinets... in which rosewood chairs were exported a lot with a unit price of about 79 USD/piece FOB, at Cat Lai port (Ho Chi Minh).
China is the second largest market after the United States with 491.3 million USD, up 14.71% over the same period.
For the Japanese market – this is a potential market for exporting wood products of Vietnam. In the first 7 months of 2013, Vietnam exported to this market 441 million USD.
In addition to the three main markets mentioned above, Vietnam also exports to markets such as Korea, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, etc./.
