Vietnam ranks 6th in the world and 2nd in Asia in wood product exports.
In the first eight months of 2013, exports of wood and wood products reached over $3.34 billion, an increase of 11.6% compared to the same period in 2012.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development estimates that the export value of wood and wood products in August reached US$432 million, bringing the export value for the first eight months of 2013 to over US$3.34 billion, an increase of 11.6% compared to the same period in 2012.
In the first seven months of the year, with the exception of the German market (down 14.4%) and France (down 2.2%), exports of wood and wood products to most major consumer markets showed strong growth, specifically: the United States increased by 7.2%, China by 14.7%, Japan by 20.3%, and South Korea by 48.2% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Trade and Industry Information Center (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam ranks sixth in the world, second in Asia, and first in Southeast Asia in wood product exports.
In 2012, the export value of wood and forestry products was $4.67 billion, an increase of 15.3% compared to the previous year, and this sector had a high trade surplus compared to the rest of the country.
It is projected that in 2013, exports of wood and wood products will grow by 10%, reaching approximately US$5.5 billion.
Regarding export markets, the United States leads in export value, exceeding $1 billion, accounting for 36.7% of the market share, an increase of 7.24% compared to the same period. In July 2013 alone, exports of wood and wood products to the United States reached $176.2 million. The main product categories exported to the US that month included: chairs, beds made of pine wood, tables, cabinets, etc., with chairs made of mahogany wood being particularly popular, priced at approximately $79/piece FOB at Cat Lai port (Ho Chi Minh City).
China is the second-largest market after the United States in terms of export value, with $491.3 million, an increase of 14.71% compared to the same period last year.
For the Japanese market – this is a potential market for Vietnam's wood product exports. In the first seven months of 2013, Vietnam exported $441 million worth of wood products to this market.
Besides the three main markets mentioned above, Vietnam also exports to markets such as South Korea, the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, etc.
