The Postal Department - Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam has just voiced its protest against the Chinese Postal Service issuing stamps that violate Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago.

Recently, the Chinese Post Office issued a set of 6 popular stamps named “Beautiful China”, including one stamp named “Sansha That Lien Du” with images of islands in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago (price of the face stamp is 1.2 yuan). This is an act of violating Vietnam’s sovereignty over this archipelago.

Vietnam has full historical and legal basis to affirm its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The issuance of the stamp “Sansha That Lien Du” by the Chinese Postal Service is inconsistent with the provisions of the Universal Postal Union Documents (Article 8 of the Convention).

The Vietnam Postal Service protests the above action of the Chinese Postal Service and requests the Chinese Postal Service to respect the truth, immediately cancel the stamps, envelopes and postcards printed with images of the islands in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago, and not let similar actions recur, contributing to building the relationship between the two postal services in particular and the two countries of Vietnam and China in general.
