The Postal Department - Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam has just voiced its protest against the Chinese Post Office issuing stamps that violate Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago.

Recently, the Chinese Post Office issued a set of 6 common stamps called “The Beauty of China”, including a stamp called “Sansha That Lien Du” with images of islands in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago (price of the face stamp is 1.2 yuan). This is an act of violating Vietnam’s sovereignty over this archipelago.

Vietnam has sufficient historical and legal grounds to affirm its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The issuance of the stamp “Sansha That Lien Du” by the Chinese Postal Service is inconsistent with the provisions of the Universal Postal Union Documents (Article 8, Convention).

The Vietnam Postal Service protests the above action of the China Postal Service and requests the China Postal Service to respect the truth, immediately cancel stamps, envelopes and postcards printed with images of islands in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago, and not let similar actions recur, contributing to building the relationship between the two postal services in particular and between Vietnam and China in general.
