According to a report in the Daily Star, Manchester United's leadership is planning to find a replacement for David Moyes before Christmas. Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to return to steer the team through its crisis.

Ladbrokes immediately offered odds of 10/1 for Sir Alex Ferguson to return to manage Manchester United. Furthermore, a Ladbrokes agent even stated that "this is the right time to sack Moyes" and "the possibility of Ferguson returning cannot be ruled out."

Over the years, Sir Alex has always closely followed Manchester United's matches. In particular, during their away game against Leverkusen, the former Scottish manager even went to the stadium to watch the match.

Besides Sir Alex, Jurgen Klopp is also a strong candidate to replace Moyes. However, this is unlikely to happen because he previously stated that he wanted to spend his career with Dortmund.

Manchester United's biggest obstacle in sacking Moyes is the severance pay. If they sack Moyes, the amount they would have to pay in compensation would reach £25 million.

Following their 0-1 defeat to Newcastle, Manchester United dropped to ninth place, 13 points behind league leaders Arsenal and seven points behind the top four.
