From Tan Thanh border gate (Lang Son), hundreds of tons of potatoes are transported in containers to Da Lat, the potato-growing region, and then back on the way to Ho Chi Minh City…

On January 4th, the Da Lat Agricultural Market Management Board announced that in just nine days at the end of December, through two companies in Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong, traders at stalls number 13 and 38 of the market imported 130 tons of Chinese potatoes.

In previous years, Chinese potatoes only flooded Da Lat during the rainy season (off-season) when Da Lat's potato production was very low. Afterwards, many small traders would wash and coat the potatoes with Da Lat's red soil before transporting them to other provinces and cities for sale.

Right now, as Da Lat begins its main potato harvest season, Chinese potatoes are still being imported at very cheap prices (nearly 3,400 VND/kg). Da Lat potatoes, which were previously priced at around 22,000 VND/kg, have dropped to only about 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.
