On January 4, the Management Board of Da Lat Agricultural Market said that within just 9 days near the end of December, through two companies in Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong, traders at stalls 13 and 38 of the market imported 130 tons of Chinese potatoes.

In previous years, Chinese potatoes only flooded into Da Lat during the rainy season (off-season) when Da Lat potato production was very low. After that, many traders washed and soaked the tubers in Da Lat red soil before sending them to other provinces for consumption.

Now is the time when Da Lat starts harvesting its main potato crop, but Chinese potatoes are still imported at a very cheap price (nearly 3,400 VND/kg). Da Lat potatoes have dropped from around 22,000 VND/kg to only about 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.
