Soldiers of Uncle Ho on a new front line

(Baonghean) - After serving in the army, veteran Le Anh Dao returned to his hometown in Hamlet 3, Ly Thanh Commune (Yen Thanh District). In this impoverished area, upholding the qualities of a soldier of Uncle Ho, he conquered the poor land, building a prosperous economy not only for his family but also helping many comrades and neighbors develop their businesses.

Previously, to develop his family's economy, Mr. Dao did various jobs from growing off-season oranges and lemons combined with selling groceries, making ice cream... but his income remained unstable. Five years ago, he spent money visiting and learning about economic models in the North and found the frog farming model quite effective, so he decided to invest in it. Starting with a trial of raising 10 pairs to gain experience, he then dug two ponds for raising froglings and nearly 500 quintals of adult frogs.

However, the frog farming methods were still inefficient. With his experience and diligent nature, he continued to research and find ways to utilize the empty land under rows of betel nut trees, mango trees, lychee trees, etc., to sew tarpaulins into rows for breeding froglets and raising frogs for commercial purposes. Mr. Dao said: “Raising frogs in tarpaulin ponds is more effective than in cement ponds because the ponds are very simple and anyone can raise them, and it is convenient for changing the water daily. Most importantly, the frogs are less likely to rub against the pond bottom, so the breeding rate is ensured and the frogs grow faster.” In particular, the froglets are selected and crossbred between male native frogs and female Thai frogs, so the loss of breeding stock is very low, and they can withstand all environments and weather conditions. Currently, each year, in the rows of tarpaulin ponds, he raises over 2 tons of market-ready frogs and breeds over 40,000 froglets for the market, generating a net profit of over 120 million VND per year from frog farming.

Drawing on his practical experience, he has wholeheartedly guided and provided breeding stock to 50 war veteran association members in the commune, as well as to people in and outside the district, helping them to replicate the model. Besides being a successful businessman, war veteran Le Anh Dao is also a leading example in all the association's and local movements, actively contributing to the development of the War Veteran Association branch in Hamlet 3, which has consistently achieved the title of "Excellent and Strong" for many years. War veteran Le Anh Dao has been honored with numerous certificates of merit and exemplary reports at meetings honoring exemplary war veterans at the commune level and by the Yen Thanh District War Veteran Association. Mr. Lang Khac Luc, Chairman of the Ly Thanh Commune War Veteran Association, Yen Thanh District, affirmed: "The diversified economic model of war veteran Le Anh Dao in Branch 3 is a prime example of household economic development for the association and the commune. He has boldly raised new types of livestock, especially pioneering frog farming for high income. This is a model for us to replicate on a larger scale."
