Ky Anh stone rampart was discovered by local people in the early 1990s. In 1993, after approaching the area, archaeologists of Ha Tinh province began to conduct research and surveys. After nearly 10 years of research and study, in 2011, archaeologists of Ha Tinh province officially announced about Ky Anh stone rampart at the National Archaeological Announcement Conference in 2011. In 2012, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh province coordinated with the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology and the French Far East Archaeological Center (EFEO) to continue to explore and research this unique ancient stone rampart. Ky Anh ancient stone rampart has been recorded in ancient documents and official historical documents such as: Complete Annals of Dai Viet; Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi; Dai Nam Thuc Luc; Nghe An Ky; Ha Tinh Du Dia Chi...

Although there are still many different explanations, the majority of cultural and heritage researchers in Ha Tinh province believe that it is possible that this ancient stone rampart system is a remaining vestige of the ancient rampart system of the Lam Ap kingdom (Dai Viet - Champa period) with a length of over 30km built by the Lam Ap kingdom based on the Hoanh Son range, with the purpose of defending and protecting the border... During the Trinh - Nguyen conflict, this ancient stone rampart system was further reinforced by Lord Trinh Toan, so local people still call it Ong Ninh rampart (Ninh Quan Cong - Trinh Toan).

It can be affirmed that this is a system of ancient stone ramparts built very uniquely with special artistic architecture that not only has cultural and historical value but also high aesthetic value.
