Watching too much TV leads to depression
Watching too much TV is linked to poor health and loneliness, a study has found.
Scientists at the University of Texas at Austin (USA) surveyed 316 people aged 18-29 about whether they often watched TV and whether they often experienced negative emotions. The results showed that there was a direct link between the two.
The more people feel bad, the more they watch TV to try to escape that mood. But by doing so, we neglect our work, relationships, and even our families.

The study's lead author, Yoon Hi Sung, said the results should be viewed as alarming. "Some people often argue that watching too much TV is a 'harmless addiction', but our results suggest that this is not the case. Physical fatigue, obesity and other health problems are associated with excessive TV viewing. Many people know that they shouldn't, but they find it hard to resist the urge to watch episodes after episodes," said Yoon Hi Sung.
According to research, the definition of watching too much TV is watching 2-3 episodes of a movie or TV show in a row. However, many people watch much more than that thanks to online TV. When an episode ends on an Internet TV service, it automatically skips to the next episode in just 15 seconds.
