Watching too much TV leads to exhaustion.

One study suggests that watching too much television is linked to declining health and loneliness.

Scientists at the University of Texas at Austin (USA) surveyed 316 people aged 18-29 about whether they frequently watched TV and whether they often experienced negative emotions. The results showed a direct correlation between the two.

The worse people feel, the more TV they watch in an attempt to escape that mood. But in doing so, we become more distracted from work, relationships, and even family.

Lead researcher Yoon Hi Sung said the results should be considered alarming. “Some people argue that watching too much TV is a ‘harmless addiction,’ but according to our research, we shouldn’t view it that way. Physical fatigue, obesity, and other health problems are linked to excessive TV viewing. Many people know they shouldn’t, but they find it hard to resist the urge to watch episodes continuously,” said Yoon Hi Sung.

According to research, the definition of watching too much TV is watching two or three episodes of a show or series consecutively. However, many people watch even more than that thanks to streaming services. When an episode ends on an internet TV service, it automatically switches to the next episode in just 15 seconds.
