Raising chickens using biosecurity practices.

(Baonghean) - For a long time, the people of Thanh Chuong have known how to exploit their natural advantages to raise chickens, bringing high economic value. In order to improve quality, the district has implemented a model of raising chickens in a biosafety-oriented manner, creating products that meet food safety and hygiene standards and helping to minimize the risk of environmental pollution...

Thanh Duong is one of the communes selected by the district to pilot the biosafety chicken farming model. In practice, the application of science and technology in livestock farming has yielded very high economic returns. Mr. Nguyen Si Huyen, from Hamlet 1, said that by participating in the model, his family received support from the district in the form of nearly 500 hybrid chicken chicks and 30% of the feed and veterinary medicine costs. After 4 months of raising, the chickens were ready for sale. His family alone sold nearly 1 ton of chicken, earning a net profit of 25-30 million VND after deducting expenses.

According to Mr. Huyen, the key to raising chickens in a biosecure manner is the application of scientific and technical methods. Based on the experience and knowledge he gained from training courses organized by the district, he invested in building a sturdy chicken coop system, ensuring it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The coop floor must be dry and well-drained, and the feed and water troughs are thoroughly disinfected before use. He purchased B40 wire mesh to enclose the garden area, creating enough space for the chickens to forage during the day. The chickens are fed with bran, rice, corn, etc. They should be fed several times a day, with small amounts each time, to ensure the food is always fresh. Currently, Mr. Huyen's family keeps nearly 20 chickens for breeding.

For Mr. Tran Dinh Thuan's family in Tien Kieu hamlet, Dong Van commune, although it was their first time raising chickens using biosafety methods, when asked about the economic benefits, he enthusiastically said: "My family received support in the form of 600 hybrid chicken breeds. Thanks to the technical guidance applied to farming, the chickens grew and developed well, reaching a weight of 1.5 - 2 kg/chicken. Recently, selling them at 90,000 - 100,000 VND/kg brought in a net profit of nearly 30 million VND. Raising chickens in this way is both simple and minimizes environmental pollution. In the future, my family will continue to raise a larger number..."

Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District Gardening Association, said that the biosafety chicken farming model is being piloted in 5 communes: Thanh Tien, Thanh Linh, Dong Van, Thanh Giang, and Thanh Duong. Accordingly, 5 households in each commune will be selected to participate in the model, receiving support in terms of breeding stock, feed, and veterinary medicine. These households must meet requirements regarding livestock housing, have a large area of hillside garden land, and possess relevant experience. The purpose of implementing the model is to develop livestock farming in a safe and sustainable direction, gradually building the Thanh Chuong chicken brand. Before implementation, the district organized visits for commune officials to learn from chicken farming experiences in Bac Giang. The practical results show that, in general, the model brings high efficiency to local farmers, while producing products that meet food safety and hygiene standards and helping to minimize environmental pollution. The district will continue to direct the expansion of this model to other localities in the future…
