The incident occurred on December 17th in a city in western Russia. An angry fan, after an argument with the bar owner, returned with a can of gasoline and a box of matches. He then poured gasoline into the bar and set it on fire, causing approximately $45,000 in damage.
The arson was motivated by the perpetrator being refused permission to watch a CSKA Moscow match on the bar's television. "I need to watch this match. It's a big game," he told the owner during the argument.
Citing the need to show a TV series to his regular customers, the owner refused the fan's request to watch football. "I won't change the channel for you. Tomorrow you'll go to another bar, and I have to serve the people who come here to watch this series every week," the owner said.
Feeling humiliated, the enraged fan went outside to get gasoline and returned to set the restaurant on fire. The owner and customers managed to escape in time, so there were no casualties.
Police arrested and charged the fan with arson. He posted bail but was banned from leaving Kaliningrad until his trial.
