Quynh Thang develops the area of ​​​​agarwood roots

(Baonghean.vn) - Quynh Thang Commune, Quynh Luu District has the second largest area of ​​aromatic root among local crops. Currently, people are preparing the land and seedlings on the harvested area.

Quynh Thang residents said that to have a regular source of water for watering the incense tree, most families dig ponds in their gardens.

Quynh Thang commune has many different crops, such as sugarcane, cassava, pineapple, rice, and agarwood roots (vetiver)... Of which, sugarcane is 300 hectares, cassava is 190 hectares, rice is 250 hectares, pineapple is 65 hectares, and agarwood roots are about 265 hectares. Of which, agarwood roots are one of the key crops for local economic development.

The Agarwood tree has been planted here in large numbers since 1998, on the rocky, hillside land. Every year at the beginning of the year, people prepare the land, make beds, and fertilize new plants. By creating seedlings on the spot, Agarwood tree growers do not have to spend money on seedlings. After more than 1 year of planting and caring for it, 1 hectare of Agarwood tree earns around 150 million VND.

To create seedlings on site, people choose strong, branched, pest-free incense root bushes, then separate the incense root bushes into many parts to plant new ones.

The main harvest of Agarwood roots is from October of the previous year to January of the following year. After drying, the products are mainly sold to incense-making villages in and outside the province. Currently, many households in Quynh Thang have switched from growing cassava to growing Agarwood roots, so the area of ​​this crop is increasing.
