Not only that, this profession also creates stable jobs for hundreds of local workers.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Son in Hamlet 4, Nghi Lam Commune is the first person to introduce the profession of producing wooden and handicraft products such as chopsticks, spoons, kitchen utensils, etc. Through many years of self-study, he has accumulated a lot of experience in techniques, designs, and market information about the products.

Wooden cooking utensils are popular in countries like Korea, Japan, etc. Mr. Son shared: “This item has little competition in the export market. The stages of making the product are quite meticulous but not strict in terms of technology and machinery, so many people can do it. That is also the advantage for me to decide to build a production facility for household wooden products and fine arts in my hometown.”

Production of fine art wooden furniture attracts many local workers

Up to now, Nghi Lam commune has 5 models specializing in producing this fine art wooden furniture. Most of the products of the production facilities are high-end, specialized for restaurants and hotels in Japan and Korea.

The cheapest set of products is sold for 10,000 VND/piece, the set of spoons and high-end cooking utensils is sold for 40-50,000 VND/set. On average, the establishments sell nearly 400,000 products/year to the domestic and foreign markets. Revenue is tens of billions of VND each year. This profession also creates jobs for nearly 300 workers in the area with an income of 3 to 8 million VND/month.

After 10 years of putting into production fine art wood, Nghi Lam people consider this one of their main occupations. The Commune People's Committee also implemented solutions to make the fine art wood export craft recognized as a village with a craft, so that the craft can develop more and more, attracting more workers in the area.
