(Baonghean.vn) - Having developed for nearly 10 years, the handicraft woodworking industry in Nghi Lam commune (Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province), a mountainous area, has generated billions of dong in revenue annually. Furthermore, this industry has created stable jobs for hundreds of local workers.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, residing in Hamlet 4, Nghi Lam Commune, was the first to introduce the craft of producing wooden handicrafts such as chopsticks, spoons, and kitchen utensils. Through years of self-study, he has accumulated extensive experience in techniques, designs, and market information regarding these products.

Wooden cookware is popular in countries like South Korea and Japan. Mr. Son shared: “This product faces little competition in the export market. The manufacturing process is quite meticulous but not demanding in terms of technology or machinery, so many people can make it. These are the advantages that led me to decide to establish a production facility for household and handicraft wooden products in my hometown.”

The production of fine wood crafts attracts many local workers.

To date, Nghi Lam commune has five specialized wood carving workshops. Most of the products from these workshops are high-end, specifically designed for restaurants and hotels in Japan and South Korea.

The cheapest set of utensils sells for 10,000 VND/piece, while high-end sets of spoons, ladles, and cooking tools sell for 40,000-50,000 VND/set. On average, these businesses sell nearly 400,000 products annually to domestic and international markets, generating tens of billions of VND in revenue each year. This industry also provides employment for nearly 300 local workers, with incomes ranging from 3 to 8 million VND per month.
