On the morning of September 23, 16-year-old Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Hoang Thien continued to cause surprises at the U-18 tennis tournament, Group 2, China Junior 15 - Xiamen 2011, taking place in China, when he excellently eliminated the 4th seed from Thailand, Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul, with a score of 2-1 (7-6, 3-7, 6-0) in the semi-finals.

This is the most successful tournament of Hoang Thien's career (ranked 238th by the International Tennis Federation - ITF) so far. At the tournament, he took fans from one surprise to another when he successively eliminated many potential candidates for the championship such as: Indian ITF ranked 89th player Raman (round 2), Swedish ITF ranked 119th player Morgan Johansson (quarter-finals),.. and now Wishaya.

The semi-final match on the morning of September 23 was extremely dramatic. Although far behind his opponent on the ITF rankings, Hoang Thien played a fair and square match with his Thai opponent. After the first 12 games were still undecided, the two players had to decide the winner in a tie-break. Wishaya quickly gained the advantage when he took a 5-1 lead.

When everyone thought that Wishaya would win the first set, Hoang Thien played surprisingly well. The Vietnamese player won 6 points in a row to come back and win 7-5, winning the first set 7-6.

The second set continued to be an exciting score chase. Wishaya took the lead 5-1 but Hoang Thien persistently chased, forcing his opponent to use all his strength to win 7-5, tying the score at 1-1 after two sets. However, putting all his strength into the second set made Wishaya exhausted and could no longer keep up with Hoang Thien's fierce shots, constantly moving the ball to both sides, so he accepted defeat with a difference of 0-6.

Hoang Thien's opponent in the final will be Serbian No. 1 seed Nikola Milojevic. This will be a very difficult match for Hoang Thien because Milojevic is a player of a different class compared to his opponents in the tournament. The Serbian player is currently ranked 25th in the world by the ITF. However, with the victories he has achieved in the tournament, Hoang Thien will probably at least enter the top 150 ITF players.
