Prices are relatively stable after the Lunar New Year – a positive sign for the new year.

(Baonghean.vn) -Normally, food prices increase in the days following the Lunar New Year. This year, after the holiday, food prices have returned to normal levels, with some items experiencing slight and acceptable increases.

From the 4th day of Tet (Lunar New Year), a stroll through several markets in Vinh City, such as Vinh Market, Quang Trung Market, Hung Dung Market, Cua Bac Market, Kenh Bac Market, Nghi Phu Market, etc., revealed a noticeable scarcity of both sellers and buyers. Generally, prices for meat, fish, eels, etc., were slightly higher than usual but significantly lower than in the days leading up to Tet, the 28th and 29th of the 12th lunar month. Specifically, prices fluctuated between markets: pork leg 60-70 thousand VND/kg; pork loin 100-120 thousand VND/kg; pork belly 100 thousand VND/kg; good quality beef 180-200 thousand VND/kg; live eel 180 thousand VND/kg; snakehead fish 80-85 thousand VND/kg; carp and grass carp 35-40 thousand VND/kg. As for green vegetables, which sold quite well after people had grown tired of stockpiling meat, fish, and other delicacies for several days, coupled with the rainy and cold weather suitable for hot pot meals, prices only increased slightly, such as cabbage at 4-5 thousand dong/bundle; water spinach at 5,000 dong/bundle; and gourd shoots at 8,000 dong/dozen…

Consumers are delighted that vegetable prices are very low after the Lunar New Year.



Pork and fish prices have returned to their normal levels throughout the year.



The fruits are both fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced.

On the 7th day of the Lunar New Year, trading activities became busier, with most goods returning to their usual prices, and the price differences between markets in Vinh City being negligible. At Vinh Market, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, a fruit vendor, said: During Tet, all kinds of fruits were sold out, so after Tet, everything is new and fresh, but the prices remain stable. For example, boxed watermelons, which cost 18,000 VND/kg during the off-season, are still the same price; grapes are 70-80,000 VND/kg; jujubes, pears, and dragon fruit are 30,000 VND/kg;… Ms. Dung also added: In recent years, there has never been a year with such stable prices as this year.

Similar to the prices of fruits, fresh foods such as pork, fish, eel, and chicken also remain at their usual prices. Specifically, pork belly costs 90,000 VND/kg, good quality pork loin costs 120,000 VND/kg; snakehead fish costs 75,000 VND/kg; carp, catfish, and tilapia cost 30,000 VND/kg; live chicken costs 120,000 VND/kg; spotted sea bass costs 60,000 VND/10 fish; sea bream costs 20,000-30,000 VND/10 fish… Most green vegetables are cheaper than usual, such as chrysanthemum greens at only 1,500-2,000 VND/10 bunches; mustard greens at 2,000-3,000 VND/bunch; celery at 3,000 VND/bunch; cabbage at 5,000 VND/kg; kohlrabi at 4,000-6,000 VND/kg; Green beans cost 12,000 to 15,000 VND/kg… Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, from Vinh Tan ward, happily stated: “Since the new year, the prices of food items are reasonable, and salaried workers like us are very happy and feel more secure when we go to the market with our money in hand.”

However, based on our observations, some items such as beef remain at high prices, with premium cuts costing from 180,000 to 200,000 VND/kg; green tea is at 15,000 VND/bundle; oranges of all kinds are fluctuating from 40,000 to 80,000 VND/kg; Thai mangoes are 80,000 VND/kg; and custard apples are 100,000 VND/kg….

Not only at Vinh Market, but also at Quang Trung, Hung Dung, Nghi Phu, Kenh Bac markets, etc., by the 7th day of Tet, the prices of basic goods had truly reassured the people. This is a positive sign, indicating that the year will see successful efforts in stabilizing market prices, contributing to improving and raising the living standards of the people.
