Hung Nguyen expands the area planted with high-quality rice varieties.
(Baonghean) - In recent days, across the fields of Hung Nguyen district, farmers have been focusing on planting the spring crop.
In Hung Tan commune, the atmosphere among farmers is bustling with activity, taking advantage of the water flowing into the fields and the warming weather to complete the planting. While planting the last rows of rice in her field, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh excitedly said: "Based on experience from previous years with prolonged severe cold spells, this spring my family planted seedlings under plastic sheeting and later to avoid the cold. The farmers no longer have the mentality of finishing planting before the Lunar New Year; they have to do it properly, otherwise all their efforts and seeds will be wasted."
Therefore, farmers are strictly adhering to the planting schedule issued by the commune and district. Another encouraging aspect is that this spring, the commune has introduced high-quality rice varieties into production with a seed purchase support mechanism, promising a higher income per unit area compared to previous seasons."
Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Tan commune, Nguyen Trong Phuc, who accompanied us, said: "Out of a total of 320 hectares planted in the spring crop, including 260 hectares of rice, Hung Tan has restructured over 50% of the area to high-value commercial rice varieties, including AC5 and Huong Thom. In addition, the commune continues to maintain production on over 15 hectares of seed rice, with a yield of 60 quintals/hectare and a selling price 1.3-1.5 times higher than commercial rice; and is implementing a project to grow clean vegetables to supply the Vinh City market... Hung Tan strives to achieve many great successes in this spring crop - the main production season of the year."

Hung Nguyen district has basically completed the planting of spring rice.
Not only in Hung Tan, but also across the fields of the communes along the historic September 12th road such as Hung Thong, Hung Xa, and the communes along the Lam River such as Hung Linh, Hung Long, Hung Lam, Hung Phu..., the rice paddies are gradually covering the green of the rice seedlings.
Mr. Hoang Duc An, Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Hung Nguyen district, said: "To date, Hung Nguyen has planted 90% of its spring rice crop. This spring, Hung Nguyen is focusing on transforming the rice variety structure towards commercial production, expanding the use of high-quality rice varieties, and especially emphasizing high-quality purebred rice varieties to build the Hung Nguyen rice brand. Therefore, out of the total spring planting plan of 5,700 hectares, the district has directed the planting of about 65-70% purebred rice varieties, including Nang Xuan, VTNA2, and AC5, which yield high productivity of 65-70 quintals/hectare and have higher commercial economic value. At the same time, we have directed the introduction of the XT28 rice variety to replace the old IR1820 variety in areas where farmers traditionally plant the spring crop early."
To encourage localities to actively consolidate land plots and apply science and technology to production, increasing income per unit area, the district has invested over 1 billion VND to support the construction of 4 model fields with over 100 hectares in Hung Tay, Hung Thang, Hung Phuc, and Hung Tien communes for high-quality rice production; at the same time, it has applied wide-row and narrow-row sowing machines for spring rice cultivation.
Due to the earlier onset of severe cold weather this year, the district authorities have focused on directing farmers in communes with a tradition of direct sowing to sow after the Lunar New Year in the late spring crop, limiting direct sowing in the early spring crop. As a result, the rice plants in Hung Nguyen's fields are still growing very well. Another noteworthy point is that this spring, farmers have become more aware of the importance of covering seedlings with plastic sheeting to protect them. Therefore, the area of seedlings covered with plastic sheeting in the district accounts for approximately 90%, with some communes reaching 100%, such as Hung Linh, Hung Lam, Hung Xa, and Hung Long...
Along with rice, this spring season in Hung Nguyen also focuses on producing 500 hectares of peanuts with the new L26 variety; 600 hectares of corn with two main varieties, LV14 and BO06; 800 hectares of various vegetables; and thousands of hectares of aquaculture... The district also has policies to support the construction of safe vegetable production areas, policies for models of raising free-range chickens according to biosafety standards, and raising squarehead tilapia... Hung Nguyen strives to achieve a total food production of 34,000 tons, with an average rice yield of 60 quintals/hectare this spring season.
Hopefully, the implementation of the project according to the people's production plan will promise a bountiful harvest in the fields of Hung Nguyen this spring.
