(Baonghean) - In recent days, across the fields of Hung Nguyen district, farmers have gathered to sow the spring crop.

In Hung Tan commune, the production atmosphere of the people is very urgent, taking advantage of the water in the fields and the warmer weather to close the planting area. While planting the last rows of rice on her family's field, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh excitedly said: "Experience from previous years of severe and prolonged cold, this spring crop my family planted rice, covered the seedlings with plastic and planted later to avoid the cold. The farmers' mentality of finishing planting before Tet is no longer there, but must do it firmly, otherwise it will be in vain, wasting both effort and losing seeds.

Therefore, farmers all comply with the crop calendar issued by the commune and district. Another exciting thing is that this spring crop, the commune has introduced high-quality rice varieties into production with a seed purchase support mechanism, promising a crop with higher income per unit area compared to previous crops."

Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Nguyen Trong Phuc, who accompanied us, said: Of the total spring crop area of 320 hectares, including 260 hectares of rice, Hung Tan has restructured over 50% of the valuable commercial rice area, including AC5 and Huong Thom varieties. Along with that, the commune continues to maintain production on over 15 hectares of seed rice, with a yield of 6 tons/ha and a selling price 1.3 - 1.5 times higher than that of commercial rice; implementing a project to grow clean vegetables to supply the Vinh city market... Hung Tan strives to achieve many high victories in this spring crop - the main production crop of the year.

Hung Nguyen district basically completed spring rice planting.

Not only in Hung Tan but also in the fields of communes along the historic 12/9 road such as Hung Thong, Hung Xa and communes along the Lam River road such as Hung Linh, Hung Long, Hung Lam, Hung Phu..., the rice fields are gradually covered with the green color of rice seedlings.

Mr. Hoang Duc An - Deputy Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: Up to now, Hung Nguyen has planted 90% of the spring rice area. This spring crop, Hung Nguyen focuses on converting the rice variety structure towards commodity production, expanding the types of quality rice varieties, especially focusing on high-quality purebred rice varieties to build the Hung Nguyen rice brand. Therefore, in the total spring crop planting plan of 5,700 hectares, the district has directed the planting of about 65 - 70% of purebred rice varieties, including Nang Xuan, VTNA2, AC5, which both give high yields of 65 - 70 quintals/ha and have higher economic value. At the same time, it has directed the introduction of XT28 rice variety to replace the old IR1820 rice variety in areas where farmers have the habit of early spring crop production.

To encourage localities to actively consolidate fields and plots; apply science and technology to production, and increase income value per unit area, the district has invested more than 1 billion VND to support the construction of 4 model fields with more than 100 hectares in Hung Tay, Hung Thang, Hung Phuc, and Hung Tien communes to produce high-quality rice; and at the same time, apply wide-row and narrow-row seeders to sow spring rice.

Due to the severe cold this year coming earlier, the district has also focused on directing communes with a tradition of direct sowing to sow after Tet in the late spring crop, limiting direct sowing in the early spring crop, so the rice plants in Hung Nguyen fields are still growing very well. Another noteworthy thing is that this spring crop, farmers have been more aware of covering with plastic to protect the seedlings, so the area of planting seedlings covered with plastic in the district accounts for approximately 90%, especially some communes have reached 100% such as Hung Linh, Hung Lam, Hung Xa, Hung Long...

Along with rice, this spring crop in Hung Nguyen also focuses on producing 500 hectares of peanuts with the new peanut variety L26; 600 hectares of corn with 2 main varieties LV14 and BO06; 800 hectares of various vegetables; thousands of hectares of aquaculture area... The district also has policies to support the construction of safe vegetable production areas, policies for the model of raising hill chickens in the direction of biological safety and raising square-headed perch... Hung Nguyen strives to achieve a total food output of 34,000 tons, with an average rice yield of 6 tons/ha in this spring crop.

Hopefully, the implementation according to the project and production plan of the people promises a bumper crop in Hung Nguyen fields this spring.
