A poor but academically gifted student.
(Baonghean.vn) - In a remote village in Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau district, there is a shining example of overcoming difficulties and excelling in studies. That is Lim Thi Hoe (born in 1994, in Na Pa village, Chau Hoan commune), a student in class 12C1 at the District Ethnic Boarding High School.
Coming from a difficult family background, with her mother passing away early and her father single-handedly raising and educating three sisters, after completing her junior high school program (academic year 2008-2009), Lim Thi Hoe boldly applied to Quy Chau Ethnic Boarding High School with the hope of finding the most favorable learning environment to nurture her dream of repaying her father's kindness and supporting her younger siblings' education.

Then, in that year's exam, Hoè passed and got into the school with a very high score. From then on, the petite student would cycle more than 30 km home every weekend to visit her family, then carry rice, salt, and other necessities back to the dormitory. "Many days when I came home, I saw my father struggling alone to provide for four mouths to feed. Before finishing 10th grade, I considered dropping out of school to work and help my father, but he wouldn't let me. He said, 'Our family may be poor financially, but we can't let our education go to waste.' My father's words stayed with me throughout my school years, so I was determined to study hard to repay his kindness. Knowing my circumstances, the school's Board of Directors awarded me a scholarship, which allowed me to continue my studies," Hoè recounted.
The support of the community helped Hoè overcome difficult circumstances. And as if to repay the kindness of her father, teachers, and others, during her years at the Ethnic Minority Boarding High School in Hoè district, she consistently achieved academic success that earned the admiration of many of her friends: From grades 10 and 11, Hoè was an outstanding student at the school, and in the 2011-2012 school year, she won first prize in Literature at the provincial-level gifted student competition.
Mr. Vi Anh Tuan, a teacher in class 12C1, said: "Knowing about her difficulties, the subject teachers always create the best conditions for her to develop her abilities. I think it's not only students from specialized schools or wealthy families who can excel academically. Hoè deserves to be a shining example for other students in the school to learn from and emulate."
When asked about her future plans, Hoè said: "Today's results are just the beginning. This school year, I will try to maintain my good grades and be determined to pass the university entrance exam. And I hope to be successful in the future so I can help my father and support my younger sister's education."
