Two 91-year-olds want to register their marriage
For the past month, people in Phu Phung commune, Cho Lach district (Ben Tre) have been buzzing about the case of Mr. Ha Van Toi and Mrs. Bui Thi Vinh, both 91 years old, who came to ask to hold a wedding ceremony at the commune church.
According to Mr. Vinh, the couple wishes to spend the rest of their lives together. Although they did not hold a wedding, they wanted the Phu Phung Church to conduct a mass (both are Catholics) and the Phu Phung Commune People's Committee to issue a marriage certificate. However, this has not yet been successful due to strong opposition from the children and grandchildren of both sides.

Mr. Nguyen Van Giang, Chairman of Phu Phung Commune, said: The old man and old woman's intention to register their marriage is legitimate. The commune will issue a certificate when the couple completes the relevant documents. The obstruction by the children of both sides is a violation of the law; the commune will support the couple with legal issues as well as related issues.
Mr. Giang also said: the support of the two elders' children and grandchildren is extremely necessary, because although they are still clear-minded and healthy, both elders are old and it will be very difficult if they stay together without the consent of their children and grandchildren.
