(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, April 10th,The People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue (BCH PCLB and TKCN) held a conference to evaluate flood and storm prevention and search and rescue work. Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue, chaired the conference.

In 2011, the North Central region was affected by 5 typhoons and 1 tropical depression. To proactively cope with storms and floods, Nghe An province effectively implemented preparedness, emergency response, and damage mitigation measures with high professional expertise, ensuring 24/7 duty throughout the rainy season. It directed efforts to ensure the progress of key flood control projects, effectively carried out evacuation of residents, mitigated consequences, conducted search and rescue operations, and minimized losses of life and property.



Awards and certificates of merit were presented to collectives and individuals.

The conference also pointed out some shortcomings and limitations, such as the poor implementation of the "four on-the-spot" principle by some units and localities, the lack of synchronized direction, coordination, and mobilization of forces and resources at times, the lax management of boats and vessels, and the untimely handling of encroachments on the protection corridors of irrigation and transportation works…

Regarding the 2012 flood and storm prevention and search and rescue tasks, Comrade Dinh Viet Hong requested that localities and units, based on their assigned functions, proactively develop specific flood and storm prevention and search and rescue plans for 2012 according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, with the spirit of self-preservation being paramount, leveraging internal resources, coordinating with forces, organizations, and the entire population to effectively carry out flood and storm prevention work, quickly resolving incidents and damages caused by storms, floods, and natural disasters, and overcoming complacency and dependence.

On this occasion, 3 units and 6 individuals were commended by the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control, 17 collectives and 15 individuals were commended by the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in flood and storm control and search and rescue work in 2012, and 3 individuals were commended by the Provincial People's Committee for their exceptional achievements in flood and storm control and search and rescue work.
