(Baonghean.vn) -Nguyen Bieu was an official during the Later Tran Dynasty. His hometown was Binh Ho village, La Son district, Nghe An town. He passed the Imperial examination at the end of the Tran Dynasty. When Tran Trung Quang ascended the throne, Nguyen Bieu was appointed as Royal Inspector. He went down in history as an example of loyalty and righteousness.
When the Ming invaders came, he assisted Tran Quy Khoang (Emperor Trung Quang) in organizing the uprising forces of the Later Tran Dynasty. In 1413, the Ming army threatened Nghe An. King Tran sent Dai Quan Nguyen Bieu as an envoy to ask for investiture, but was detained by Truong Phu. To test him, Truong Phu prepared a "human head feast", he leisurely gouged out his eyes to eat and wrote the famous poem "Eating a human head feast" in anger. Seeing this, Truong Phu let him go, but Phan Lieu stopped Truong Phu and brought him back.
Faced with his bravery, the enemy killed him by tying him to the foot of a bridge on the bank of the Lam River so that the rising tide could drown him. That was on July 1, the year of Quy Ty (1413). The enemy general Truong Phu, after cowardly killing him, had to exclaim: "What a brave man, a hero of the Southern country". The story happened when Truong Phu of the Ming Dynasty stationed his troops at Nghia Liet Mountain in Nghe An; Emperor Trung Quang built a citadel south of Chi La facing each other...
After many days of work, the people of hamlet 8 - Hung Xuan have a place to burn incense to commemorate Nguyen Bieu.
After the victory over the Ming invaders, the people of Nghe An - Ha Tinh built temples and shrines to worship Nguyen Bieu. King Le Thai To posthumously honored him as Nghia Vuong. Later dynasties also posthumously honored him as Phuc Than. In Yen Thai village (now hamlet 8, Hung Xuan commune, Hung Nguyen district), there is a temple to worship Nguyen Bieu located next to Lam river. After many years of historical upheavals and natural disasters, only a piece of land and a few ruined walls remain. Over time, local people have contributed their efforts and money to repair the temple.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tu - Chairman of the Veterans Association of Hung Xuan Commune - Hung Nguyen said: In 2007, there was a conference about Nguyen Bieu held in Vinh City. Everyone in my hometown thought that sooner or later, Nguyen Bieu's temple would be restored, but it has not been seen for a long time. With the desire to have a place to worship him, the people of Hamlet 8, Hung Xuan Commune contributed their efforts and money to repair and restore his place of worship. Knowing that doing so is not worthy of a historical relic, but the people voluntarily contributed as much as they could!
Make a road from Lam River dike to go down to the temple area.
Young people participate in digging and building foundations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung in Hamlet 8, Hung Xuan, added: To repair the area around the old temple, people contributed hundreds of working days, some days there were more than 50 people participating in digging, leveling the ground, making roads and cleaning the area around the temple. Some people contributed incense burners, others contributed a few hundred kilograms of cement, those who knew how to be masons participated in repairing the shrine, women participated in cleaning, young men dug the ground, leveled the ground...
The voluntary restoration of Nguyen Bieu Temple by the people of Hamlet 8, Hung Xuan Commune is a commendable act. Objectively, in recent years, many localities across the country have done a good job of socialization, mobilizing the active and effective participation of people in contributing funds and working days to renovate and repair historical relics, contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of the value of the relics, promoting tourism development. Restoring, preserving and promoting the value of historical relics is a necessary work to propagate and educate present and future generations about the historical traditions of the homeland and the nation. However, to restore a relic like Nguyen Bieu Temple in Hung Xuan Commune, according to regulations, it is necessary to go through many procedures with the participation of surveys, professional consultations of functional sectors and permission from competent authorities.
Therefore, on the part of the people of hamlet 8, Hung Xuan commune, it is necessary to carry out the restoration of the temple in a reasonable manner. On the part of the authorities at all levels, should we soon intervene to help the people fulfill their sincere wishes and show gratitude to the loyal and famous mandarin Nguyen Bieu, whose example of sacrifice for the country and the people will forever live on with the heroic history of the nation against foreign invaders. On the other hand, it is to let the Nguyen Bieu temple develop properly as a historical relic in the sense of educating traditions for future generations./.
