New Miss Vietnam - Dang Thu Thao

The first beauty queen from the Southwestern region of Vietnam to win the Miss Vietnam crown had a brief meeting with the press and shared her feelings of happiness at being crowned.
- What were the new Miss Vietnam's emotions at the moment of her coronation?
I feel surprised and overjoyed. Even now, having touched this prestigious crown, I still can't believe it's real. I want to thank everyone, especially my parents and family, who have always encouraged and supported me throughout the competition."

Touching the crown, the new Miss Universe still couldn't quite believe that her dream had come true.

Today, the contestants, like the first runner-up Duong Tu Anh and the second runner-up Hoang Anh, all have their parents by their side. Why aren't the parents of Miss Thu Thao present?
My hometown is in Bac Lieu, so far from Da Nang. My parents are also ill, so they can't be with me right now. But my parents and relatives are always watching over and supporting me. Every day, my parents call to encourage me. Thanks to them, I've always had the confidence to keep going throughout the competition.

So, did anyone accompany Thao to Da Nang to take the exam?

I'm here to compete with Mr. Dang Hung. He's the one who discovered and supported me in the Miss Vietnam pageant after I won the Miss Mekong Delta title. He's practically helped me with everything from my competition outfits to my makeup and hairstyle.

The contestants' competition outfits were mostly chosen with the help of their mentors.

So, between you and the teacher you're talking about, is there a kind of contract like a manager and a beauty queen agreement?

Whether or not there's a contract, I will never forget the kindness of my teacher, who worried about me and wholeheartedly supported me like an older brother in the family. As a token of my gratitude, I would like to use a portion of my prize money to repay some of the material expenses he incurred to support me during the exam. As for his moral support, it's immeasurable.

It is known that Thao also had a difficult time traveling alone from Bac Lieu to Can Tho to study.

Yes, that's right. Due to difficult circumstances, I decided to go to Can Tho and took on a part-time job as a barista in a café. Thanks to this job, I was able to save money to cover my studies. Initially, my mother didn't approve, but I was determined and proved myself to reassure my parents, making them believe that their daughter wouldn't go astray while studying far from home alone.

Coming from a disadvantaged family, Thu Thảo went through difficult times of independence to be able to support herself financially for her education.
What memories remain with Thảo after her time competing in the Miss Vietnam finals in Da Nang?
Da Nang is a beautiful city, not only for its natural beauty but also for the friendly and sincere nature of its people. And the beautiful memories and feelings shared among the contestants in the Miss Vietnam pageant. From the outside, people might think that since we were contestants, it was understandable that we would face competition. But in reality, under the same roof in Da Nang, we were like sisters in a family. After the competition, I gained many new friends. I will miss everyone very much.

What remains after the days spent in Da Nang for the competition is the strong bond of camaraderie among the contestants.

What other plans does Thao have for the Miss title?

Regarding the monetary prize, I will donate 40% of the prize money to charity, not just to one place, but I will distribute it equally to several places such as my hometown of Bac Lieu and Can Tho City - where I currently live and study.
With the Miss Vietnam crown, both in the past and now, having been bestowed upon me, I will always keep my parents' teachings as my guiding principle: that knowing how to love and having an education are essential for becoming a good person. I will follow that guiding principle to continuously improve myself and live up to the title of Miss Vietnam.
